We are excited to announce the arrival of the Your Home and Garden homeware range to Farmers! This exclusive range includes serveware, dinnerware, manchester, home decor and a few furniture pieces. The range was put together by our buyers and Shelley Ferguson, Editor of Your Home and Garden magazine and recent co-host of The Block NZ.
Your Home and Garden is known and loved for creative interior ideas and this beautiful new range brings the magazine’s aesthetic to life. Inspired by New Zealand landscapes, the range features soft sea blues, earthy tones, pale wood and luxe textures that fans of the Kiwi lifestyle will relate to and love. The range includes high quality homeware, furniture and accessories in sophisticated palettes that mix and match together. A beautiful, functional and affordable range for interior lovers that want to make a stylish statement at home. We caught up with Shelley Ferguson, editor of Your Home and Garden magazine and co-designer of this range, to hear about her involvement in bringing this range to life.
How did this range come about?
“Your Home and Garden has been published in New Zealand for over fifteen years, and now that it’s so established, we felt it was the right time to extend the brand beyond paper and into the retail market. Being an interior magazine, a Your Home and Garden homeware range was the obvious place to start. We wanted to partner with another iconic New Zealand brand, so approached Farmers to gauge interest. I’m happy to say they were very interested, and the rest is history!”
What are the key elements that inspired this range?
“The range was inspired by the latest trends, and the New Zealand lifestyle. Kiwis love the outdoors, so we wanted the range to have a lovely natural, relaxed feel that brings the outdoors in. This has been achieved with on-trend textures and materials including pale wood, stone, linen, marble and metallics. At Your Home and Garden we are very inspired by colour, so we knew the range couldn’t be completely neutral! But instead of going crazy with brights and patterns that may date, the range features beautiful pared-back shades including duck-egg blue, terracotta and chartreuse.”
Where did you look for inspiration when helping design this range?
“I thought a lot about what our readers love, and what would work in their homes. Your Home and Garden is known for creative interior ideas, and the range reflects that. You can layer chunky textures, scatter cushions, mix and match patterned duvets and sheets, stack up stone, slate and pale wood plates, and use the beautiful marble bowls for so many purposes. It’s such a lovely range to experiment with and you can’t get the styling wrong because it’s all designed to work together.”
Where did you take inspiration from for the colour palette?
“The colours are inspired by nature. It’s a sophisticated, restrained palette of earthy colours, cool greys and natural tones. It gives the range a beautiful organic, relaxed feel and means the products can be easily integrated with people’s existing interior schemes.”
Which are your favourite pieces from the range and why?
“Oh my goodness there are so many! The Faro stone dinnerware is absolutely stunning, as is the Madeira pale wood serveware and the Algarve Italian glassware. The Nazare tripod floor lamp is going straight to my lounge, as are the Seville woven rug and Alora armchair in that gorgeous duck-egg blue. The Mahli duvet set teamed with the Sweet Dreams pillowcases creates a dreamy bedroom setting, and the Casal marble bathroom range is totally luxe.”
What was your favourite part of the process working with the Farmers Buying team?
“We were completely on the same page when it came to design, colour, quality and style, which made the process so enjoyable.”
Which is your favourite room in your home and why?
“My bedroom. I have two busy little boys who leave lots of clutter in their wake, so my bedroom is a peaceful sanctuary I can escape to for some Me Time! The bed is such a great opportunity to make a statement by layering up luxurious textures and tones, and it’s so easy to swap out the bedlinen to achieve a new look in an instant.”
What is the biggest mistake people can make when decorating?
“I think people buy lots of little things, rather than starting at the beginning with the basics, and making a big picture plan. I always like to invest in quality furniture, flooring and basics first, then get the paint and colour palette right, and lastly layer the room with homeware and accessories. That way, you get a cohesive interior look you can build on.”
